Indian Air Force learns to fly with Indus Paragliding School

First batch of Indian Air Force

Indus Paragliding School successfully completed paragliding training for the first batch of Indian Air Force personnel. The 22 students batch completed their 8 days course in paragliding at Kamshet.

Indus Paragliding won the contract of teaching paragliding for Indian Air Force. The contract has been awarded to Indus Paragliding on the basis of experience, expertise and infrastructure. Indus will be conducting 135 courses for IAF from January to March 2012.

As an affiliated school of PAI (Paragliding Assassination of India) we are proud to add more members to the organization and bring more support for the PG community in India.

'SIV Guru' Jocky Sanderson was in Kamshet to conduct a 3 day Safety and Thermalling Workshop organized by Paragliding Association of India.

As Managing Committee member of PAI and also CFI / owner of Indus Paragliding I am really glad to see Jocky Sanderson with us. The workshop attracted 40 pilots from all over India. Jocky covered many aspects of paragliding right from basics to some advanced tips on SIV, reserve deployment, XC flying and more. We thank PAI for organizing this technical workshop and Jocky Sanderson and Chris White for sharing their knowledge with our pilots.

Billing Chachu (chaiwala) passwed away

Our dear chachu ji from Billing passed away. All of us will miss him at the billing take-off. and of course we will miss that hot glass of tea made and served by chachu. Hope they maintain the place as it is. I have great memories of that place form my early Bir-billing days...

R.I.P. Xavier Murillo

PWC (Paragliding World Cup) head and my dear friend Xavier Murillo is no more in this world. Xavier went missing on July 1, 2011 in Peru during X-Andes reconnaissance.

It is hard to believe this news. All through the search and rescue mission we all very very hopeful to find him alive.

I met Xavier at Millau in France during 2008 Natural Games. One cannot forget his great contribution to paragliding sport. His smiling face will always be in our hearts.

Rest in peace my friend. We will miss you. :(

A red ribbon flutters in the wind. It's past noon. We try to ignore our baked backs as we take in the breathtaking view of the valley below the 2,700 ft Pavagadh hill. "Now!" We turn our heads to see a man running backwards with a giant bow-shaped parachute attached to his backwards. "Not there, not there. There are too many trees," shouts the instructor. The man moves a little to his right, gathers speed and flings himself off the cliff as we marvel at the chute. The paragliding adventure finally kicks off at Gujarat's most popular picnic spot, Pavagadh

We watch as the paraglider hovers at the base of the cloud. The proud instructor, Mumbai-based Sanjay Pendurkar of Indus Paragliding, tells us, "You need to look for a thermal (hot air current that rises up in a spiral as soon as you jump off the cliff. Once you find it, you can stay in there for as long as you want to. The day before, a man was up there for five hours!"

As people wait for tandem paragliding (the term used for the joyride-like experience where a trained paraglider will take you along to give you the feel of the sport), we look at the landscape sprinkled with exquisitely-carved monuments that make up the only UNESCO-World Heritage Site in Gujarat.

Paragliders' meet to kick off in Pavagadh today

VADODARA: Prominent paragliding pilots from across the country arrived in the city on Wednesday to take part in Pavagadh paragliding festival that will kick off at the pilgrim hill station from Thursday onwards.
The four-day festival has been organised by ex-army man and sports enthusiast Captain Rajiv with the aim to not only survey the potential of the sport there, but to also explore whether Pavagadh can make it on paragliding map.

"Paragliding is gaining ground in India very rapidly, and the two most popular sites in India are Bir-Billing in Himachal Pradesh and Kamshet near Pune. Gujarat is totally missing in this list. We are holding this festival as an attempt to try and get Gujarat in this list," Captain Rajiv told TOI on Wednesday, adding that Pavagadh tops the list of potential sites in Gujarat for cross-country flying, also known as flat land flying.
"We will check the duration of the flying distance possible at Pavagadh," said Gurpreet Dhindsa, who is ranked India's best paragliding pilot by Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI). "Himachal Pradesh is famous for paragliding because many good pilots come there."

"Pilots always like to fly at different places. There is potential to make a good paragliding circuit by connecting Kamshet, Pavagadh and other sites of Madhya Pradesh," added Sanjay Pendurkar, who runs Indus Paragliding school at Kamshet.

After the festival, which will see participation of 15 experienced pilots, the organisers will also submit a report to Gujarat government with a plan of action that the state can follow to promote adventure sports at Pavagadh. "If the study indicates positive results Pavagadh paragliding festival can become an annual invitation festival which can be converted into an open competition and subsequently an international one," he added.

Hello Sanjay (Pendurkar),

Now I´m sitting here and dreaming from you, my first steps, my first flight, the nice meals from your cook, your teaching lessons on the computer at evening, the magic nice drive with the jeep to the tower hill, the interesting drive from Kamshet in a three-wheeler to your house, all my bad landings on my knees or backside – and of course the good landings – and of course I hear your praising word in bed before sleeping when I make something good.

My flight was well to Bruessel. But in Bruessel there was ice and snow and the next flight was so late, that I couldn´t get my last flight from Frankfurt to Stuttgart. So I had to take a train to Stuttgart. And now I miss my whole luggage since 5 days, my big suitcase of 36 kg, and the most import thing your nice T-Shirt. I would like to wear it in spring and summer…….

On our nice Christmass evening yesterday I told my parents, wife and son about our good days and I could show some pictures, because I had my camera in my handluggage.

Thank you for all the things you´ve done with me and for your patience – are I´m not the lightest and youngest. And excuse me for my bad English.

Nice to be back in Birr. Manoj, Teenaa, Divya and Sandeep are already here. Gokul is also reaching today. Teenaa and Divya will have their first flights from Billing. Sanjay will spend couple of days with new pilots and then its practice time for the competition.

Waiting for the clouds to disappear

Its nice to hear our student pilots calling up every now and then wanting to know...when are we going to start flying again.

Well! the clouds up there are back in action....we saw some real good showers in and around Kamshet area. So lets wait and watch. The monsoon in India is weaker than the usual... looks like we are going to have an early start to the new flying season.
